Find a rental location for an OV-fiets

A day out in another city? Rent an OV-fiets. You are then pleasantly active in the open air and you do not have to take into account the departure times of trams, buses and the metro. You can quickly go to different places. Public transport bicycles can be rented at many stations and other locations for EUR 3.95 per 24 hours. You return the bike at the end of the day at the same location. For this you need a personal OV chip card and a free subscription to the OV-fiets.

Large rental locations for public transport bicycles are manned. You can take a bicycle here, an employee will scan the bicycle and your public transport card. Some rental locations are self-service parking facilities. Here is a bicycle in a kind of locker. In this tip, we will not go into the operation of such a self-service public transport bicycle. • Go to www.ov-fiets.nl/huurbedrijven
• Click in the search bar and type the place where you want to get on your bike, for example ‘Utrecht’.
• Suggestions appear as you type. Click on your choice.
• A map opens with a bar on the left with more information about the location, for example the opening times. Both the map and the bar show how many bicycles are available.
  

Public transport bicycles may not be available at a location. Then look for a location where they still are:

• Click in the search bar and type the place where you want to get on your bike, for example ‘Utrecht’.
• Suggestions appear as you type. click on Show all for [Utrecht].
• The map zooms out and shows all nearby public transport bicycle rental locations. Both on the map and in the bar on the left you can see where bicycles are still available. Click on one of the locations to see more information.

Pay attention: The number of bicycles available is estimated. It is therefore possible that the online information is not completely correct. Are you coming to a rental location and there are no more bicycles? Then you can wait for someone to return a bicycle. It is not possible to reserve an OV-fiets.

You can also use the NS app to see where public transport bicycles are rented. Download it in the App Store (iOS) or the Play Store (Android).

• Tap the app NS.
• Tap at the bottom right More > public transport bicycle.
• Optionally, tap in the search bar that says ‘Search’.
• Type where you want to rent a bicycle, for example ‘Utrecht’.
• As you type, a list of suggestions appears. Tap the location.
• A map opens with icons where the rental locations are.
• Tap an icon for more information such as opening times of the location or a route description. To do this, tap the top of the cameo and swipe up.

  

• Does the venue have no bicycles available? On devices with Android, the map also shows nearby rental locations. Zoom in and out on the map to find other rental locations. In iOS it works differently:
  • Tap the left arrow at the top to go back.
  • Tap again public transport bicycle and type in the search bar where you want to get on your bike.
  • The list of suggestions shows how many bicycles are available at the locations.
  • Tap a location for more information and see where the rental location is on the map.
