First-generation Google Nest Hub now gets app drawer via update

Google is updating the first generation of the Google Nest Hub with an app drawer. You can navigate through your list of apps as soon as you swipe up on the screen. That update was previously available for the second generation of the Nest Hub.

Nest Hub App Drawer

After the second generation of its smart screen, Google is now also updating the first Nest Hub with an app drawer. 9To5Google states that the update is already rolling out to users using the preview version of the Nest Hub software at this point. The update is expected to hit all Nest Hub users in the coming days.

The Nest Hub’s app drawer pops up when you swipe up on the screen. You will then find apps such as: Weather, Timer, YouTube, Netflix and News. So you get much easier access to these apps without having to talk to Google first. The function was already tested in the fall of 2021.

The news about the app drawer on the second generation of the Google Nest Hub actually got a bit snowed in in March this year due to a serious bug that came with the update. Some smart screens came in a so-called bootloop rightly so, that is an error where the device keeps rebooting endlessly.

Nest Hub Tablet

With the arrival of an app drawer, Google seems to be increasingly preparing for the arrival of the new generation of the Google Nest Hub, which is rumored to come with a detachable screen. You can then easily remove the tablet from the dock and it is therefore logical that you want faster access to apps if you only use the screen for operation. The Nest Hub with detachable screen can probably also be seen in this animation of Android 13.

Do you already have the update with the app drawer on your Nest Hub and do you find it a useful function? Are you curious about the next generation of the smart display? Let us know in the comments.
