First prices for new Mini Cooper and Mini Countryman announced

The brand new and fully electric Mini Cooper SE and the Mini Countryman C with fuel engine have a price tag. It turns out: the electric Cooper SE is eligible for a purchase subsidy. We also get a better view of the fuel Countryman.

It is an important month for Mini, as September kicked off with the presentation of the brand new fully electric Mini Cooper and the new Mini Countryman. In both cases, there are two electric flavors to start with. For example, the Cooper is presented as a 184 hp E and as a 218 hp SE. The Countryman comes as a 204 hp E and as a 313 hp SE with all-wheel drive. Fuel versions of the Cooper and the Countryman will also appear and the prize festival now also starts with a petrol version of the Countryman.

Mini Countryman C

Mini announces the prices of the electric Cooper SE and the Countryman C. The ‘C’ stands for the currently least powerful petrol engine and is therefore separate from the equipment level, which can be selected separately. ‘C’ means a 170 hp petrol engine, which helps the Countryman from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Do those numbers look familiar to you? That could be right; It is undoubtedly a mild-hybrid powertrain that we know from the technically related BMW X1, to be precise from the X1 sDrive20i. It has a blown 1.5 three-cylinder engine that sends the power to the front wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. With that drivetrain, the Mini Countryman is more than €5,000 less expensive than the BMW X1; the Mini Countryman C is available from €45,990. By the way, the above image is the first image of the Countryman with a petrol engine and it is clearly visible that it hardly differs in appearance from the electric one.

Mini Cooper SE

As mentioned, the first prize of the new Mini Cooper is that of the currently strongest electric version; the SE. The 218 hp and 330 Nm strong version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and achieves up to 402 km of driving range (WLTP) from a 54.2 kWh battery pack. The Mini Cooper SE is available from €38,990 and is therefore eligible for the so-called SEPP subsidy of €2,950. The less powerful Mini Cooper E will of course be a bit less expensive.

More to come

It will remain at these two prizes for the time being, but of course there is much more in store. We will hear more in mid-October, Mini assures. We can therefore expect the prices of the electric versions already presented for the Mini Countryman and more fuel versions are on the way. For example, we now know that the Mini JCW Countryman All4 will have a 300 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. We know that drivetrain from the BMW X1 M35i. There are also fuel versions of the Mini Cooper, but they are a bit more shrouded in mystery. Interestingly, ‘JCW’ is both an engine version and a trim level. The Fast Mini JCW Countryman All4 is always decorated as a JCW, but you can also opt for sporty JCW finery in combination with the more civilized C drivetrain described above.

The Mini JCW Countryman can also be viewed. It has a more openwork grille, plenty of black accents and thicker bumper work.
