Preparations for the 2022 Formula 1 season are in full swing. In the run-up to the start of the season, Formula 1 now officially confirms the test days in Barcelona and Bahrain. However, the test days in Barcelona are being cut back considerably.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will open from February 23 to 25 for Formula 1 teams to drive their first laps with their new cars for the 2022 season. Due to the changed rules, the new cars are quite different from their predecessors, so the teams and drivers have to make the most of these days to get used to the new cars. The session in Barcelona is a ‘pre-testing track session’, meaning it will not be covered on television, the timing will not be shared from round to round and there will be no fans present. In 2019, for example, that was still the case in Barcelona. However, the best lap times of each driver can be viewed at the end of each test day.
After the preview in Barcelona, the teams can hit the track in Bahrain from March 10 to 12 for the official test days. A week later, the first race of the 2022 Formula 1 season will be held at the same location. The teams can therefore make good use of the test days to immediately set up their cars for that race. The test days in Bahrain are broadcasted and fans are allowed to attend.
