Remember Flappy Bird from the iPhone? The game became incredibly popular and suddenly disappeared from the App Store. But the app is making a comeback!
Flappy Bird is coming back to iPhone (here’s when)
About ten years ago, one particular game was more popular than almost any other app in the App Store. That was the game Flappy Bird on the iPhone. It was a very simple game where you had to guide a bird between two Super Mario-like pipes. You did this by tapping the screen of your iPhone at the right speed.
The game was incredibly difficult and became incredibly popular because of that. But the creator Dong Nguyen couldn’t handle all that fame and hassle that came with it. He therefore wrote on X (then still Twitter) that he was going to remove the app from the App Store. That naturally led to a lot of displeasure from the fans.
At first it was thought that it was some kind of stunt. But when Flappy Bird really disappeared the next day, some players had to swallow hard. Flappy Bird seemed to be gone forever.
But that’s about to change, because Flappy Bird on the iPhone is making a comeback. The rights have been transferred to a new team and on the Flappy Bird official website it can be read that the game is preparing for a comeback.
The game is expected to be released on iOS in 2025. It will also introduce new game modes, characters and other extras. We hope that the game will not be overloaded with in-app purchases and that the simple style will be preserved.
