Never miss your bus again thanks to the new update to Google Maps. You can now see current public transport departure times, the fastest route home and local restaurants at a glance. We show how the new function works.
Google Maps local information now in the app
Google has provided its maps app with a handy update. When you tap on a specific location, you immediately see useful information in the form of three added tabs: Explore, car and public transport.
1. Explore
As soon as you swipe up the window you will enter the explore tab. Here you will see local amenities such as restaurants, ATMs, gas stations and supermarkets. The app always displays the nearest facility.
2. Auto
The second tab shows you the best driving route to your selected location. Maps takes into account local traffic conditions and provides an estimated time of arrival. You will also be kept informed of traffic jams thanks to the ‘driving mode’.
3. Ov
Do you prefer to go by public transport? Even then, Google has thought of you. The third addition is to view current public transport departure times. Depending on where you are, or where you want to go, you will immediately see what time buses, metros, ferries, trams and trains leave.
Any delays are also shown. As icing on the cake, the location of the departure points, such as a bus stop, is also displayed. So if you are lost, one tap is enough to get to your destination.
