A simple trick gives you more control over the app selector in iOS 9.2. We show you how it works.

App Picker in iOS 9.2

The iOS 9.2 update has now been available for a number of weeks and is mainly about bug fixes. However, that does not mean that the update does not include new features. For example, Mail Drop was added to make it easier to email large files. What most people won’t know is that an option gives you more control over the app selector.

The app selector was completely updated with iOS 9 and shows apps as tabs next to each other. This looks clearer, but has the disadvantage that you can easily swipe past the desired app. You can prevent this by activating an option. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device;
  2. Tap on ‘General’ and then choose ‘Accessibility’;
  3. Press ‘Reduce movement’ and activate the function by tapping the switch.

When the Reduce Motion feature is turned on, iOS uses fewer animations and other effects. You notice this when, for example, you start an app or use the app selector. With the latter, it is now possible to swipe through opened apps one by one. This makes multitasking a bit easier and prevents you from having to swipe multiple times to find the right app.
