The Ford F-150 Raptor is of course a fierce colossus in every way, but with this brand new F-150 Raptor R, Ford proves that it can be even more fierce. There is no V6 under the hood, but just like in the past a mighty eight-cylinder!

The hardcore Raptor enthusiasts undoubtedly had to swallow when Ford presented the Raptor version of the previous generation Ford F-150. It no longer had a 6.2 V8, but a twin-turbo 3.5 Ecoboost V6. Ford also offers a rugged Raptor variant of the current generation F-150, which also has the 450 hp 3.5 six-cylinder engine from its predecessor under the hood. However, Ford is now adding another eight-cylinder to the Raptor adventure with the introduction of this F-150 Raptor R.

The Ford F-150 Raptor R is an addition to the F-150 range. No six-cylinder under the hood, but a mighty 5.2 V8 that is related to the machine in the front of the Mustang Shelby GT500. That eight-cylinder has no turbos like the V6 in the regular Raptor, but is equipped with a supercharger. The result is quite intense. The F-150 Raptor R stamps 700 hp and 864 Nm to the sand. In order to also get the housing of the V8 in order, Ford has de power dome – the bump on the hood – by 2.5 centimeters.

Ford has in the superlative of the F-150 Raptor – which it ‘the ultimate raptor’ calls the V8 from the Shelby GT500 did not hang in it without adjustments. The machine has modified exhaust manifolds, a unique oil cooler and a deeper oil sump. To allow the eight-cylinder engine to breathe adequately, Ford increased the F-150 Raptor’s air intakes by nearly 70 percent. The V8 is mated to a thoroughly beefed-up version of Ford’s well-known ten-speed automatic transmission. Other adjustments: the front axle has been reinforced, the drive shaft is a lot thicker and the torque converter of the automatic transmission has also been adjusted to let the power go through the drivetrain without too much pounding. Under the F-150 Raptor R hangs a new customizable exhaust system. Of course, the F-150 Raptor R has a hefty off-road chassis, complete with 36 centimeters (rear) and 33 centimeters (front) long suspension travel.

Inside, the F-150 Raptor R gets sports seats from Recaro that are covered in a combination of leather and Alcantara. Here and there you come across carbon fiber panels and of course the necessary Raptor R-designations can not be missed, just like on the exterior. The first copies of the extra intense Ford F-150 Raptor will leave the Dearborn factory at the end of this year.
