The Americans pay tribute to two unsuccessful, lightweight prototypes from Alan Mann Racing with the new Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition.
In the 1960s, Ford was determined to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans and outdo Ferrari. The story is known. Less well known are the two Alan Mann Racing prototypes, which formed the basis of Ford’s racing success. These red-and-gold racers were based on the Mk1 Ford GT, but weighed a lot less. That’s because Alan Mann Racing experimented with lightweight materials, including aluminum. The driving experiments were unsuccessful, but the knowledge gained was instrumental to Ford’s legendary 1-2-3 victory at Le Mans in 1966.

Not to forget the pivotal contributions of Alan Mann Racing, Ford introduces the GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition. Like its test forefathers of the past, the new limited edition Ford GT also comes with a special red paint and gold accents. The color scheme is completed with race numbers and a set of extra stripes, all in the color ‘Frozen White’.

Alan Mann Racing’s prototypes provided a lot of knowledge about weight saving at the time. So it’s fitting that the modern tribute shows off its own lightweight materials. That is why the carbon fiber remains clearly visible. The door mirrors, wheels, sills, front splitter and rear diffuser, with all these body parts it is clearly visible that they are made of black matter.

It is also one big carbon fiber party on the inside. The lightweight building material can be found, for example, on the doors, the dashboard and the center tunnel. Other parts of the cockpit, such as the steering wheel, window frames and seats, are covered in soft Alcantara.
