After the presentation of the electric Ford F-150 Lightning last week, Ford continues with the F-150 Lightning Pro. This is the commercial version, for which the aforementioned basic price applies.
Where the Ford F-150 Lightning shown last week is the ‘hip’, richly equipped variant for private individuals, the F-150 Lightning Pro is intended for commercial customers. In short, this is the real workhorse of the two. On the outside, the Pro can be recognized by a simpler front without the continuous LED light bar over the entire width. This means that the back must probably also lack that element, although unfortunately there is no image of it.
The ‘grille’, or rather the plate that takes its place, is also slightly different from the more upscale version of the Lightning. On the inside, it is noticeable that the large, 15.5-inch Mustang Mach E screen is missing. Instead, a more or less square screen is mounted that can still be there at 12 inches.
Lots of cabin, little box
Of course, the ‘Pro’ also has a huge ‘frunk’, so a lockable cargo space in the front. This is a big advantage compared to a regular F-150, because in addition to much more space, it also provides a lockable and dry cargo area for valuable items such as power tools. Less convenient for intended customers is that the F-150 Lightning Pro is currently only available with a long ‘Crew Cab’ cabin and the shortest loading platform. A real ‘work truck’ configuration, so with a two-door cab and a much longer body, is therefore not yet in sight.
From a technical point of view, the Pro is the same as the regular Lighting, although the emphasis here is more on the less powerful basic version. It still has four-wheel drive, 432 hp and 1,050 Nm, so that is not a problem. Ford asks converted € 32,800 for a bare ‘Pro’ with a range of 370 km. The payload is then around 900 kg, the towing weight at over 2,260 kg. Optionally, the towing weight can be stretched to almost 3,500 kg, although we cannot imagine that the car will get very far on a full battery
The version with an unspecified larger battery pack is in theory 483 km far and therefore immediately delivers 571 hp. The specified range is also determined according to the EPA measurement method commonly used in America, which usually yields a somewhat more realistic result than ‘our’ WLTP cycle. This version now also has an American starting price: $ 49,974, or roughly 40,900 euros.
