According to rumors, a new iPad mini 2023 will be released soon – perhaps even this week – and we are more than happy about that. This is why.
iPad mini 2023 rumors
The iPad mini has had the same design for no less than nine years since its introduction in 2012, but that changed in 2021. The iPad mini 2021 received a completely new design, with thin screen edges, no home button, and support for the Apple Pencil 2.
So you shouldn’t expect another total redesign with the iPad mini 2023, which according to some rumors will be released this week. Yet Apple’s smallest tablet is getting a lot better. In any case, the rumors so far are making us greedy: these are four reasons why we want an iPad mini 2023.
1. An even faster chip
The iPad mini is not a slow tablet thanks to the A15 Bionic chip, but it can always be improved. Not only to run apps and games better, but also to unlock new features in iPadOS. Consider, for example, Stage Manager, which allows you to work with windows on your iPad and on an external screen. The iPad mini still lacks this function.

The rumor that the iPad mini will get a faster A16 Bionic chip, or perhaps an A17 or M1, sounds like music to our ears. A mini tablet that is as fast as a laptop? Yes please!
2. Better camera system
The camera would also be overhauled on the new iPad mini. This is mainly due to the faster chip, which enables things like the Photonic Engine for better photos, or even the Portrait mode that is still missing from the iPad. If there’s an iPad we want to see this on, it’s the Mini – it’s most subtle when you hold it up in the air for a snapshot.

It is not yet known whether the iPad mini will also receive camera improvements in terms of hardware. The camera is already the same as that of the iPad Air, but with a flash that is missing on the Air. But since the Air is also getting a new version, it could well be that both models will receive some camera upgrades at the same time. Time will tell.
3. New colours
In our opinion, the iPad mini 2021 has some boring colors: starlight, space gray, and very subtle versions of pink and purple. There could be some new colors – how about midnight or the blue color of the iPad Air 2022? Fortunately, a new iPad from Apple almost always means a new range of colors, so we are ready for it.
4. No jelly scrolling
It was a small scandal: jelly scrolling on the iPad mini 2021. This is a problem with the screen, which means that scrolling movements do not seem to be consistent across the entire screen. This gives a somewhat crooked effect – not very pleasant.

The reason for this is that not all parts of the screen are refreshed at the same time. Apple wants to tackle this problem with the iPad mini 2023, for example by turning the image controller a quarter turn. This would make jelly scrolling a lot less noticeable, at least if you hold the iPad upright.
iPad mini 2023 release
The iPad mini 2023 could be released as early as this week, although there are still some doubts about that rumor. However, a release in October or November is very likely. Do you want to be the first to know when Apple announces the new iPad mini? Then subscribe to our newsletter!
