The French government is “very hopeful” about a possible investment by car manufacturer Tesla in the country. That is what Minister Bruno Le Maire of Economic Affairs said about a visit by Tesla CEO Elon Musk to France last month. “He knows he will be welcome in France. It is up to him to make a decision,” Le Maire told news channel LCI.
When asked whether Tesla might invest in the production of batteries or other components in France, the minister replied that there are “some options on the table.” Musk spoke with President Emmanuel Macron during his visit. Tesla is currently investigating suitable production locations. It already builds cars for the European market in Germany, near Berlin. France could win the second European ‘gigafactory’, but Spain and Italy also seem to be in the race for this. Tesla also builds cars in Texas, California and China. Tesla also plans a gigafactory in Mexico.
