French police warn against theft trick along highway

Holidaymakers traveling through France are advised to pay extra attention when making a stopover. Thieves have pulled a special trick to steal your belongings from you.

The police of the Meuse department, just below Belgium and Luxembourg, warns via social media for thieves in parking places along the motorway. Well, it is always careful to ensure that everything is properly locked when you leave the car, but in this case the thieves sometimes come to your car while you are there. The French police explain that they first deflate a tire and then strike.

It works as follows: a tire suddenly becomes empty after a coffee break in the gas station and the car owner then starts working on it. If a spare wheel is available, people often go to work in the trunk to get it out without locking the rest of the car. Changing the wheel is also often done with the car open. After all, you are there. Thieves seem to be taking advantage of that unguarded moment; while you’re at it, something is quickly stolen from the car. After all, the attention for the rest of the car is sometimes not quite there. Just asking for help with a nearby car, while yours is open, is completely optimal for the malicious parties.

The advice is therefore simple: pay close attention to what is happening around you if you suddenly find yourself with an empty tire and close the car or put valuable items out of sight. So there is a chance that there is intent and thieves are watching you.
