Fuel prices drop by 5 cents

The average petrol price in the Netherlands has fallen by 5 euro cents in a week. This is closely related to the oil price, which has plummeted recently.

Purchasing collective UnitedConsumers sees that Euro95 at the pump costs an average of 1,663 euros per liter, a decrease of 5 cents compared to last Tuesday.

UnitedConsumers director Paul van Selms says the drop is significant: “About 1 euro of the price at the pump consists of excise duty and tax. Fuel manufacturers can therefore only lower the price by about 50 cents. 5 cents per 50 cents is therefore a drop of 10 percent in a short period of time. ” At the same time, the price of diesel also fell by an average of 5 cents.

Oil prices plummeted more than 30 percent a week ago after Saudi Arabia decided to boost production and cut its own prices. For example, the country wants to compel Russia to sign an agreement with the oil cartel OPEC.

This downward trend is beneficial for consumers. “If you can postpone it for a day, I would refuel earlier than today. This could be completely different in a week, when the oil price starts to rise again. This oil price will not last long,” explains Van Selms.
