Fuss over the Phone app in iOS 17 – here’s what’s going on

Apple is going to make a lot of changes in iOS 17. But iPhone owners with iOS 17 are now complaining about the changes in the Phone app. What is going on?

iOS 17 isn’t officially out yet, but you can already install the public beta on your iPhone if your iPhone is supported. Yet lately there has been some commotion on X (formerly Twitter) about the changes Apple has made. For example, the Phone app on your iPhone in iOS 17 also received a few subtle changes. But not everyone agrees with that.

It’s the button that lets you hang up at the end of a phone call (the ‘Stop’ button). The button works as usual, but is now in a different place. In iOS 16 and earlier, the button to end the phone call was at the bottom of the screen, all by itself with no other buttons. A little above that were two rows of buttons for FaceTime, the number keys, and more.

In iOS 17, Apple has modified the buttons. Everything has been pushed further down. The button to hang up is now in the row of buttons. You’ll find it on the far right, in the bottom row.

Personal posters during telephone conversations possible cause

Why Apple did this becomes clear when you look at the other new features of iOS 17. One of the new features are the personal posters for contacts. This allows you to set how you appear in the picture of someone else during incoming calls.

You will then see an image on the entire screen, and then it will be nicer if the buttons are not in the middle of the picture. Also nice to know: even if someone has not set up a personal poster, the buttons are now always at the bottom of the Phone app of iOS 17.

You have to wait a little longer for the official release of iOS 17. Apple releases iOS 17 shortly after the presentation of the iPhone 15. This usually happens in the second or third week of September.
