‘Future AirPods will get lossless audio via bluetooth’ – and that’s nice

The new AirPods Max firmware features an improved Bluetooth codec and brings wireless lossless audio one step closer. You can read exactly what this means and why it is good news here.

AirPods Max with better bluetooth codec: this is what it means

Apple recently released new firmware for the AirPods Max. A developer discovered that the AirPods get better bluetooth with the update. This means that there is less loss of quality while receiving music wirelessly. Phone calls will also sound a lot better from now on. Finally, the new codec is more energy efficient, so you can listen to music for longer.

So the firmware update is good news for AirPods Max users, but also for future AirPods. Consider, for example, the long-awaited AirPods Pro 2. According to several rumors, these AirPods will have a ‘lossless bluetooth function’. This means that there is practically no difference between the sound quality of wired audio and wireless audio.

If this is actually the case, the sound quality of the next Pro-AirPods will improve enormously and they will probably also last much longer. The current AirPods Pro have the weakest battery life of all available Apple earphones. This is mainly due to their active noise cancellation. This is a handy feature that unfortunately consumes quite a bit of energy.

More about the next Apple Pro earphones

The current AirPods Pro have been around for a few years now. The earphones have been on the market since 2019 and have not had an update since. The AirPods Pro are very pleasing, but better sound quality and battery life are always welcome. In our opinion, the design could also be refreshed.

We already know a few things about Apple’s next Pro earbuds. They reportedly get an ear sensor, just like the AirPods 3, that determines when you take the earbuds off. This sensor stops the music when it is no longer near your skin. The current AirPods Pro have a proximity sensor that you can easily fool by holding an earpiece against your t-shirt, for example.

Another handy function: the AirPods Pro 2 will probably get a speaker in the charging case. Have you lost your ears again? Don’t worry, play the sound from a distance and you’ll have them back in no time.
