The Dutch petrol stations are seeing their revenues evaporate as a result of the measures relating to the corona virus. Revenues had already fallen sharply, this week is even stronger by say trade associations Bovag and BETA.
On the road it is of course also incredibly quiet and the petrol stations notice this. “Our supporters speak of a 50 percent drop in sales,” said a Bovag spokesperson, with a market share of approximately one third. The trade association now asks affiliated pump holders to complete a corona monitor every week and to share this with the government.
“It’s really dramatic,” said a spokesperson for the Gas Stations Interest Association (BETA), which represents half of the manned service stations. “The turnover has more than halved. Not only from refueling, but it also has an impact on the shop.” The BETA also notes that it is only decreasing further this week. “You can see the effect of the Rutte press conference. The seriousness has penetrated well after that.” The spokesman says that his industry can still be happy that it is counted among the vital sectors. “At least we still have turnover.”
