The Chinese manufacturer Geely has presented a new study model that listens to the name Vision Starburst. The sleekly designed concept car offers a glimpse into the design future of the brand.
Geely Auto is one of the brands of the Chinese giant Geely, a company that also has brands such as Geometry, Lotus, Lynk & Co, as well as Volvo, Polestar and LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) in its pocket. Geely Auto digitally advances the Vision Starburst, a study model with which Geely introduces its new design language in an inflated form.
Geely has captured the spatial atmosphere. The Vision Starburst has a name as if it were a space station and on top of that, the Chinese car manufacturer christens its new house style ‘Expanding Cosmos’. The group speaks jubilantly about the splendor of its latest design language and refers to the birth of a star and mentions, among other things, ‘holistic’ design. That sounds good from a marketing point of view, of course. It doesn’t detract from the concept car itself.
Geely Vision Starburst
The Vision Starburst is a slick five-door hatchback with butterfly doors. The front doors open upwards in a similar way to the BMW i8 and even the rear doors join in, although they open backwards. Geely’s design study has a large closed mouth and an LED light signature that spans the entire width of the front. There are cooling vents on either side of the muzzle, as well as on the underside of it. Geely places sensors and cameras where you would expect regular headlights. The lighting at the back is at least as impressive as the light show at the front. The Vision Starburst has boomerang-shaped rear lights made up of horizontal stripes that are tied together with a horizontal LED strip. In the center of the back, just below the remarkably flat rear window, the Geely brand name can be read. Another striking detail: the whole area is illuminated with LED lighting around the wheel arches filled with striking turbine wheels. With these illuminated spots, the show model can indicate, among other things, that it is charging.
Geely Vision Starburst
Of course the interior is completely high-tech, the Vision Starburst is after all a study model with which Geely tries to attract the necessary attention. The concept car has a ‘floating’ center console that consists solely of a display. Behind the strikingly flat steering wheel is a wide display that optically flows into the rest of the dashboard. The stripes that can be set in various colours, which return almost everywhere, are what Geely calls ‘Cosmic Rays’.
Geely Vision Starburst
The Vision Starburst will not go into production. However, don’t be surprised if Geely brings certain design elements back to its models in toned-down form in the future.
