Large companies worldwide are responding to the corona crisis by offering support in many ways. There is also a lot going on in the automotive industry in this area and General Motors is doing its utmost to produce mouth masks.
In the United States, the regular car industry has also come to a standstill, but that does not mean that the large manufacturers do nothing. Ford has already announced that it is starting an ever-growing production of respirators in the US. General Motors is now reporting that it can start manufacturing face masks. This helps the American hospitals and their staff in these difficult times.
GM announces in an official statement that it has its first production line specifically designed for mouth masks. That worked in just one week. The first 20,000 face masks can be delivered next week. Ultimately, production must be able to be increased to 1.5 million face masks per month via multiple production lines. The face masks are made in Warren, Michigan, where gearboxes are normally made. A specially cleared hall of 3,000 square meters is now entirely intended for mouth mask production.
