Genesis G80 better exposed

Genesis already showed the first shadowy photos of the brand new G80 earlier this month. The luxury division of Hyundai has now almost literally put the car in the spotlight and gives more information about the new sedan.

Currently in Hyundai’s showrooms, the G80 is a car that just started its life as Hyundai. Before Hyundai’s model name Genesis was soaked off and continued on its own as a premium brand, this sedan was called Hyundai Genesis. The sedan has now been called G80 for several years and it is that car that is being helped to a completely new generation.

The images presented earlier, which were somewhat on the dark side, already showed that the G80 design technology is completely in line with greeting brother G90 and the brand new GV80. Also on the new G80, a large, shield-shaped grille along with dual-layered headlights characterizes the front view. The layered viewers optically run through the sidemarkers on the front screens over the flank in the rear light units. A big difference with the outgoing G80 is the fact that this new generation has an almost liftback-like line, while the basic shape of the outgoing G80 is much more traditional. In the United States and in South Korea, the Genesis G80 has to compete against cars such as the BMW 5-series, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-class.

The G80 is at 5 mm after 5 meters long, measures 1.93 meters in width and is 1.47 meters high. Those dimensions make the sedan a few millimeters longer than the outgoing model and this newcomer is 3.6 centimeters wider and 1.5 centimeters lower than its predecessor. Remarkably, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 3.01 meters. Still, the G80’s platform is completely new. The wheel arches of the specimen that Genesis is now releasing a set of new photos from are filled by wheels with a modest 20-inch size. The body is made of aluminum for just under 20 percent and that alone makes the G80 110 kilos lighter than its predecessor.

The interior is finished down to the smallest niches with leather and woodwork. The interior is almost identical to that of the GV80 already quoted, which means that in the new G80 we also find a 14.5-inch digital screen on top of the dashboard. Behind the steering wheel, a 12.3-inch display serves as a digital instrument. Genesis makes the G80 available with seats that have seven ‘air pockets’ that adapt to the set driving mode.

The outgoing G80 is available with an eight-cylinder, but the V8 does not return in its successor. Hyundai reports a 305 hp and 420 Nm strong blown 2.5-liter four-cylinder that acts as a starter on the petrol surface. Higher on the list is a 380 hp and 530 Nm powerful 3.5-liter V6. In the home country of South Korea, the basic rear-wheel drive G80 is also available with a diesel engine: a 210 hp 2.2 that we know in the Netherlands in a slightly different configuration, including the Kia Stinger.
