Genesis has loaded its weapons and is aiming its sights more precisely than ever at the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The luxury brand of Hyundai releases the first images of the all-new G90, a slick lined top limousine that unfortunately is not yet on the roll for Europe.
Genesis is going fast. Every now and then the brand releases a new model and today Genesis presents its spectators with the all-new G90. Where the G80 is considered a competitor within the Genesis hierarchy to cars such as the BMW 5-series and Merecedes-Benz E-class, the G90 is Genesis’ answer to its bigger farmers, the 7-series and the S-class. Although the new G90 is clearly recognizable as such, the car breaks some lines with the already known G90.
Genesis G90 (current model)
The years are beginning to count for the current G90. The model came on the market in 2015 as the EQ900 and went under the knife in 2018. With the facelift implemented in that year, the top sedan was fitted with a completely new front and a completely new rear, and the model name was changed to G90. The G90 already had the Genesis signature layered lighting on both the front and rear, although the new G90 looks completely different. This has mainly to do with the line of the top sedan, because the new G90 looks a lot lower and therefore more dynamic than the especially stately current model. The stretched sedan strongly resembles the smaller G80 from the front and, like that car, has a relatively steeply sloping roofline. In the snout we observe LED matrix headlights, divided over two layers, which optically continue in the wide and also spread over two levels of direction indicators. In contrast to the G80, the hood extends all the way to the wheel arch edges, limiting the number of visible seams.
Genesis G90
We also see eccentrically designed lighting at the rear, which again consists of two layers, completely true to the design language of the brand. Striking is the way in which the lighting on the sides is optically cut off by the oblique dividing line between the rear bumper and the rest of the body. With a little imagination, it is reminiscent of the last IS that Lexus sold in the Netherlands. The reversing lights are placed in the rear bumper at the very bottom of the buttocks.
Genesis G90 LWB
Like the current G90, the new Genesis G90 will also be available in an extended wheelbase version. With the new LWB variant, the wheelbase is 19 centimeters longer than that of the regular one. Genesis does not share technical data of the new G90 yet, although you do not have to wait long for it. Don’t be surprised if the brand will eventually even come up with a fully electric G90, because the smaller brother G80 is also available as an EV. Unfortunately, Genesis immediately reports that the new G90 is not yet coming to Europe. However, Genesis has big plans to sink its teeth into the European car market and a packed test sample of the new G90 has even been spotted on European soil. What is not, can certainly still come.
