German police arrest bizarre blackmailers Daimler AG

A 30-year-old and a 59-year-old suspect were arrested in Berlin on suspicion of extortion by Daimler AG. The suspects would have claimed millions or they would poison innocent Mercedes-Benzen drivers with mercury.

According to the Belgian Het Laatste Nieuws, the Berlin police have arrested the two men in collaboration with the Stuttgart police. The suspects had threatened to put mercury in parked Mercedes-Benz cars. If the driver started the engine, the mercury would evaporate and poison the driver in question. The first threats of this are said to have been sent in December. The suspects demanded millions from the manufacturer.

To reinforce the threats, the 30-year-old German allegedly damaged a rented Mercedes-Benz with homemade fireworks on the night of March 9. Extensive incriminating evidence has been found in the search of the house of this suspect. The suspect must report to the court on Saturday. The 59-year-old man was released. Whether Daimler paid money is unknown.
