Running and training is nice. And luckily, simple apps like the stopwatch on your iPhone help you measure your best times. But do you also find the standard digital stopwatch annoying? Apple helps by easily changing this iPhone setting.
The original stopwatch is a legend. It was held in the hands of your gym coach or sports trainer and clocked your times precisely. Nowadays we mainly have digital versions of it, but there is an ‘old-fashioned’ version in your iPhone and Apple Watch.
Back to square one with your iPhone stopwatch
It seems like a step backwards. With this setting you switch from the accurate stopwatch back to the ‘old-fashioned’ dial. However, there is also something confidential about doing that and an advantage. You will get insights into your lap times much faster.
Switching to the classic stopwatch is pretty much like changing a watch face on an Apple Watch. It certainly doesn’t make the time less accurate, but it will certainly appeal to many older iPhone users.

Everything at a glance
Changing your stopwatch function isn’t just about looks. It actually has a useful feature. If you set a lap time, it will remain standing.
When someone records your time, you will immediately see your previous round: at a glance. So you immediately see what your progress is (or decline, but we don’t assume that for now).

Simple settings on your iPhone
Only a few steps are required to use the classic watch face. To do this, go to the Clock app and then to the stopwatch function. When you swipe to the left, you immediately see the classic setting.
The good thing is that you can easily see the time when you start the stopwatch. Then press lap on your iPhone and you can easily set individual lap times. A child can do the laundry.
Since macOS Ventura, the function can now also be used on a Mac. This one also has an analog look. However, there is a caveat: the app has flaws. If you record a lap time, the app will jump back to digital mode. However, according to Apple, this will be fixed in a next update.
