Google Alphabet profit almost doubles in 1 year

Google parent company Alphabet brought in a lot of revenue last year from the sale of advertisements. The company has also earned a lot from cloud services because people still work from home a lot due to the corona virus.

Profit almost doubled

In 2021 Alphabet had a turnover of almost 229 billion euros (258 billion dollars). This is 41 percent more than in 2020. The profit came in at just over 67 billion euros (about 76 billion dollars), while the profit in 2020 was only 35 billion euros (40 billion dollars).

Advertisements are still Alphabet’s main source of income, ahead of the other sources of income. Ads on Google and YouTube brought in more than 53 billion euros ($61 billion) in the last quarter of last year.

According to the company, this could have been even more. There were a number of advertisers who ran out of stock and therefore decided to advertise less. Alphabet also shared that they are suffering from an operating system change for the iPhone that will reduce the number of people being tracked by Google.

Cloud services

Since more and more people are working from home due to the pandemic, cloud services are doing very well. Google’s cloud services generated a turnover of 4.8 billion euros (5.5 billion dollars) in 2021. That was a good 44 percent more than during the same period in 2020. This puts Alphabet still behind Amazon and Microsoft. These tech giants have a larger market share in the field of cloud services.
