Google is currently rolling out the January security update for its Pixel phones. This update addresses several vulnerabilities in Android, so it’s important to install it as soon as it’s available.
December 2021 security update
Almost every first Monday of the month, Google makes a security update available for its Pixel devices. These updates fix various problems and vulnerabilities in the software, so it is important that these security updates are downloaded and installed immediately. After Google has rolled out the security update and revealed more about the vulnerabilities, it’s up to other brands to update their devices.
You can in the accompanying Security Bulletin of January read which vulnerabilities Google has addressed with this update. It also lists the severity of the flaw, such as “critical” for the biggest vulnerabilities in the Android operating system. A total of 21 security issues are being fixed this month, and there’s another Security Bulletin especially for Pixel phones. In this we see, among other things, that there are vulnerabilities with regard to the Google Assistant, optimizations for the battery, improvements for the Bluetooth connection and more. In the Pixel Phone Help Community Google announces which Pixel phones will receive which build numbers via the January update. Owners of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL have stopped getting the security updates since December. The rollout for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will begin later this month.

Install update
Do you have a Pixel phone? Then you get the update via an over-the-air update (OTA). You can also install the update manually and you can read exactly how to do that here. You can find the Factory Images here and the OTA files you can here find.
