Google Maps is one of the best navigation tools out there, with tons of features to make it easier to get from A to B. On the other hand, comparing data between different locations or companies is a lot more difficult. Fortunately, it seems that Google is testing a new feature that makes switching between locations easier.
Pin several companies
Since the desktop site and mobile app only have one information panel on the left, you have to search for a business or location every time. It is not possible to quickly switch between different searches. Hopefully that will change soon with the new feature that lets you pin places at the bottom of the screen in a sort dock. In this way you can quickly switch between, for example, different restaurants and in this way make your choice where you want to order food tonight. You can compare it to grouping tabs in Chrome. This feature also lets you quickly switch between different tabs, without having to go to the menu first.
In the desktop version of Maps, the function looks like this (via Engine Roundtable):
Just like the Dock on macOS or the taskbar on Windows, you can scroll through all docked or pinned scroll items and click on one to open the item. There is also an op on each dock item that allows you to close the result again. If you no longer have a company or place in this dock, it will disappear.
Please Google bring this to the app too
So far, this docking option in Google Maps has only been spotted on desktop, and it’s unclear if it will come to the mobile version of Maps at all.
