When you are on vacation with a group of friends, it is handy that you sometimes know where everyone is. In that case, Apple users have been able to use my app and share your location with everyone in the app for several years. Unfortunately, this app is only limited to Apple users.
Nevertheless, Google Maps also has a similar function with which it is possible to share your location with almost everyone. You can immediately add friends or contacts, but also simply share your location via a link that everyone can view. At least, with whom you shared the link.
Share your location live via Google Maps
- Open Google Maps
- Tap your profile photo to open your account settings
- Choose ‘Share location’
- If necessary, tap ‘Share location’ again
By default, your location will be shared for an hour, tap these settings to adjust the time. You can even choose ‘until you switch it off’ (we don’t recommend). Then select people via the designated button or share the follow-link directly via a message or other app using ‘more options’. Tap ‘copy’ in the window obtained to immediately copy the link and share it with users.
During the set time, the Google Maps will have access to your location and share this via the link or contact persons. They can then follow exactly your location during the pre -programmed time. Sharing a location can be done for various reasons, think on vacation, festival or when you are on the way to someone.
Share live location via iMessage
Via Google Maps it is also possible to share your location live via iMessage. With the help of an extension you can easily share the location via the iOS Messages Application. You can read here how to install an iMessage extension here.
