The Google Pixel is finally coming to the Netherlands after 5 years. In the presentation, the tech giant lashed out at Apple, but is that justified? OMT editor Jeroen Kraak thinks so.
It seems to be becoming a standard these days. Tech companies lashing out at Apple. Sometimes rightly so, but regularly it is also a bit pathetic, like Google yesterday. During the launch of its own smartphone, the company could not resist referring to Apple.
Google lashes out at Apple during Pixel presentation
If you point a finger at the competitor when presenting new hardware, it is still a sign of weakness. If your own product is good, you don’t need it and people will notice. Still, Google couldn’t stop at the Pixel. And that’s a bit of a shame, since the device makes a good impression, and more competition is of course only better.
Speaking at Google’s keynote address, the brand said: “We’re proud to see other companies take over functions from us that we’ve had for years.” Then came, among other things Crash Detection and the Always on display past.
With this, the company hinted at the iPhone 14 Pro and the Apple Watch where these functions can be found since this year. In addition, there was also a stitch in the field of night photography.

Five Similarities Between Google Pixel and iPhone/Apple Watch
Yet Google is not averse to looking at Apple itself. For example, there are a number of similarities between the Pixel and iPhone that Apple already had before. I’ll list a few for you.
#1 Face ID on iPhone
The Google Pixel 7 will have the option to open the phone with the face for the first time. You can compare it with Face ID, which Apple has of course been working on for years. It has now even given us the Dynamic Island.

#2 Your own chip
Google is proud of its own Tensor G2 chip. It is the second time that the company has developed its own chip for its smartphone. Many other brands buy the processors from Qualcomm or Mediatek.
Apple has of course had its own chip for ten years. The company shows that it can make a good difference with its own iPhone. So it’s not surprising that other companies do it too. A smart move by Google, then.

#3 Camera design of the iPhone
Talk about the Dynamic Island. It can’t be found on the Google Pixel 7, but if we look at the back of the device, the design is quite similar. The two cameras are in a black oval with a circle next to it. Something that looks a lot like the notch on the iPhone 14 Pro.

#4 Fall Detection
Google bragged about crash detection, of course, but something that seems to be taking over from Apple itself is fall detection. This feature should come to the Pixel Watch in 2023. Something that Apple has had with the Apple Watch for years, of course.

#5 Apple’s own ecosystem
Apple was one of the first brands to develop its own ecosystem for its gadgets around the iPhone. First there was the iPad, then the Apple Watch and now of course we also have the AirPods.

Something that Google also really wants with the Pixel. First there were only the telephone and the earphones, but now there is also a Pixel Watch (which is not yet available in the Netherlands). In 2023, there should also be a separate tablet and a special dock that also serves as a smart speaker. With a Chromecast, Google already has its own TV device.
