DxOMark, the well-known hardware testing website, has named the Google Pixel 6 Pro as the best smartphone camera in the United States.
Google Pixel 6 Pro is best camera phone
The Pixel phones have very good cameras, only Google has loosened the reins in this area a bit in recent years. We wrote the following in our review of the Pixel 4 XL and the Pixel 5:
What I am very satisfied with is again the camera with its innovative software techniques. Still, I hope that Google will stay ahead of the competition with its Pixel camera as they make major strides in hardware.
The Pixel 5 again has one hell of a camera with superior image processing. The ultra-wide-angle lens is a nice addition to me, although it comes at the expense of the telephoto lens. I do hope that Google can increase its lead in this area compared to the competition next year. The versatility in cameras is lacking, and the competition is making great strides in that area.
Google is back
DxOMark now indicates that with the Pixel 6 Pro, Google is returning Google in the group of manufacturers competing for the crown of the best smartphone camera. According to the website, the Pixel 6 Pro is “the best option for Android users in the US market”. The review from DxOMark gives the camera setup a score of 135 for photo and 115 for video. The OPPO Find X2 Pro finished in first place last year with a score of 134 and 104.
However, good performance in DxOMark does not mean that such cameras are automatically the best in practice, because it primarily means that the phone performs well in the tests. Manufacturers are always informed about the ways in which phones are tested at DXoMark, so that they can develop their camera in such ways.
The Pixel 6 Pro has a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 48MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12MP selfie camera. The periscope camera with 4x optical zoom is new. In addition, the main camera of the Pixel 6 Pro has a larger sensor, which can capture as much as 150% more light than the predecessor. This has a favorable effect on the quality of photos taken in less favorable lighting conditions.
