According to various rumors, Google is working on a Pixel 7 Ultra. The latest rumors suggest that this device will get a large camera sensor, although the rumor propagators are not yet in agreement about which sensor this should be. What do we know?
Google Pixel 7 Ultra
Earlier this month, Google announced its new Pixel 7 series. This series consists of the ‘regular’ Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro. The biggest similarities between these devices are the larger and smoother display of the 7 Pro and the addition of a telephoto lens for the latter. According to the latest rumors, however, it does not stop with these two devices, because Google will be working on Pixel 7 Ultra.
A new name has appeared in a source code of the Pixel 7 series, reports the well-known rumor spreader Wojciechowski on Twitter. In the code name of the Pixel 7 series, he came across the name ‘Lynx’, presumably this name refers to a Pixel 7 Ultra. After all, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro were also named after felines, cheetah and panther respectively.
1-inch or 200MP main camera?
The speculation about a Pixel 7 Ultra does not stop here. Because also Ice Universe, one of the most famous rumor spreaders, comes with news about an upcoming Pixel 7 Ultra. He comes with the news that this Pixel 7 Ultra would have a 1-inch camera sensor. A 1-inch sensor is currently the largest sensor we encounter in smartphones and because of this, these sensors are able to absorb a lot of light. At the moment, the Xiaomi 12s Ultra and the Sony Xperia Pro-I also have such a sensor.
Wojciechowski contradicts this rumor, however, he says that the Pixel 7 Ultra will have the Sony IMX712 sensor. This is a smaller sensor with a resolution of 13 MP, the sensor in the Pixel 6 and 7 series has a resolution of 50 MP. Other rumors are that Google will start using a 200MP camera from Samsung in the Pixel 7 Ultra. Wojciechowski also mentions that he thinks Google is still evaluating the various camera sensors, “they can still surprise you,” he reports.
Finally, Wojciechowski reports that the Pixel 7 Ultra will have a display with Full HD (1080p) resolution, which will be very remarkable since almost all smartphones against a Full HD + or even a QHD + display. In any case, we’ll keep an eye on it for you.
