A few more weeks and then Gordon Murray Automotive will come with her T.50. A supercar in the spirit of the McLaren F1. The engine was developed with Cosworth and more is now known about what we can expect from it.
Gordon Murray, the brain behind the legendary McLaren F1, is working under his own name on a new car that is very reminiscent of F1. The T.50 is, just like the F1, a three-seater with the steering wheel in the middle and the shape of the car is very similar. Where the F1 had a 6.1-liter V12 from BMW behind its occupants, the T.50 is powered by a V12 from Cosworth. It is considerably smaller: ‘only’ 3.9 liters. For a V12 in any case modest. However, that does not mean that it is also a tamer story than with F1; the Cosworth engine is good for 663 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm. According to GMA, 71 percent of the torque is available at 2,500 rpm.
The naturally aspirated engine is a big draw for its size and that is largely due to the fact that it is a very high-revving block. According to its makers, the rev limiter only shoots at 12,100 rpm. Maximum power is reached at 11,500 rpm. Very special is that the block can shoot from idle to maximum speed in 0.3 seconds. It is reminiscent of the former Formula 1 V12s, exactly what Gordon Murray has in mind. In addition, the block is also inspired in appearance by the BMW V12 from the McLaren F1. It is clear that with the T.50 Murray envisions a reincarnation of the F1. “I already feel that the GMA V12 has the potential to become one of the most iconic bikes ever,” said the South African.
The promising power source is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, which directs power to the rear wheels. What undoubtedly makes beautiful sounding engine violence possible in terms of performance, GMA still keeps under control. We will hear that on August 4, because it is time for the world to see the T.50 in all its glory. Here is already a thick red circle around the date, we are very curious!
