Haas’ Formula 1 team has tied the knot with the team’s former driver Kevin Magnussen returning. He takes the place of the dismissed Russian driver Nikita Mazepin.
Due to the war in Ukraine, Haas decided last week to break with Russian title sponsor Uralkali and also associated Russian driver Nikita Mazepin. A replacement has not yet been announced and there have reportedly been three serious contenders to date: Nico Hulkenberg, Antonio Giovinazzi and Kevin Magnussen. In the end Haas opted for the latter. Magnussen also immediately wins a multi-year deal.
The 29-year-old Dane previously drove for Haas, which undoubtedly plays a crucial role in the choice to go for him. Haas expelled Magnussen at the end of 2020 along with his teammate Romain Grosjean after driving four seasons for Haas. Now Magnussen gets another chance in Formula 1. It will take some getting used to, after not having driven for a year and with the completely new car.
