HBO Max has announced that the name of the streaming service will be adjusted again. This means it for your subscriptions.
Max becomes HBO Max again
HBO Max has again announced a name change. The streaming service changed the name in 2023 from HBO Max to only Max. This modified name was accompanied by a new app from the streaming service, which was rolled out worldwide in 2023. Now HBO comes back from this name change, because the streaming service is called HBO Max again after the summer. So it is the second time in a short time that Warner Bros. Discovery adjusts the name of HBO Max.
In the Netherlands, the first name change has never been implemented, here the streaming service has always been released under the name HBO Max. That has to do with Omroep MAX, who objected to the use of Max. Worldwide, the new brand name is at least short -lived, because after the summer Max is turned back to HBO Max.
Consequences for subscriptions
Warner Bros. Discovery, the company behind HBO Max, has brought out the name change via a press release. According to David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery is better emphasized with the new (or old) name the quality of the streaming service. As far as we know, the new name has no consequences for the subscriptions of HBO Max.
It is expected that the streaming service will continue to offer the same subscription options. They have recently been adjusted, because you can now opt for HBO Basic, HBO Standard and HBO Premium. At the end of March, HBO Max was still overhauled the subscriptions, making the chance that they will change again. The same applies to the prices, they have been adjusted at the same time as the subscriptions.

The new name of HBO Max therefore has no consequences for the subscriptions. Yet that remains to be seen, because it turns out that nothing is as changeable as HBO Max. In the Netherlands and Belgium we hardly notice the name change, because the streaming service has always been called HBO Max here. The app may get a renewed symbol again, but that is probably the case.
HBO Max adapted the name two years ago, because since then content from Discovery Plus can be seen on the streaming service. Max was according to Warner Bros. Therefore a more appropriate name, to make it clear that there are more than just HBO titles. That will still be the case soon, even if the name is turned back to HBO Max. On what date that exactly happens is still unknown.
