Bye bye, HiPhi?
The Chinese HiPhi showed itself to be more ambitious than ever last year, but things may fizzle out. According to CarNewsChina the brand’s only factory has been closed for six months.
If you follow the news on AutoWeek.nl closely, then HiPhi is no stranger to you. In 2023 there was regular news about the young Chinese brand, which operates under the wings of the also relatively young car manufacturer Human Horizons. In March, HiPhi announced it was coming this way. The HiPhi Z would come onto the European market and a little later we were introduced to the HiPhi HiPhi immediately set quite a high position in the market and this became clear once again when it presented the extremely strong HiPhi A in November.
Maybe it was all a bit too ambitious, because… CarNewsChina has heard that things are not going quite as planned for HiPhi. It has picked up an internal memo sent to employees showing that its only factory (located north of Shanghai) will close its gates for six months. There are also uncertain voices about the payment of this month’s salary. From March 18, minimum wage would only be paid by parent company Human Horizons. It sounds like there are money problems. It wouldn’t be the first Chinese pipe dream, but who knows, maybe there will be more positive news about HiPhi soon.
