HMD Global has failed to deliver on its promise to bring Android 11 to the Nokia 9 PureView. Owners of this phone can get a discount on another Nokia phone if they want to make the switch to Android 11.
Nokia 9 PureView will not get Android 11
Failure to keep your promises as a smartphone manufacturer is a sin, and that’s exactly what HMD Global does. Not only have Nokia’s Android 11 updates been delayed, as most Nokia phones are expected to have Android 11 by the end of April, but now one has fallen by the wayside as well. It concerns the flagship, the Nokia 9 PureView. This device would be the last to be operated, and receive Android 11 before the end of September. Now it appears that the phone no longer gets Android 11 at all.
The Nokia 9 PureView runs participates in the Android One program. That means that the Android version is as good as standard, without fuss from the manufacturer itself. The phone would receive a minimum of two years of version upgrades and three years of security updates. Although the phone was upgraded to Android 10 in December 2019, it has not received a new Android version since then.
Cameras are to blame
HMD Global gives the following declaration for the lack of Android 11 update for Nokia 9:

That’s why we had to make the difficult choice not to offer the Android 11 software upgrade for the Nokia 9 PureView. The incompatibility between the camera and the software would lead to a less than good experience that does not meet our high standards.
Your current Nokia 9 PureView will not change and you will continue to receive security updates. However, if you want to make the switch to Android 11, we’re offering a 50% discount on the Nokia XR20 or any other X-series device, depending on availability in your region.
The Nokia 9 PureView has no less than five cameras on the back and came to the shops in 2019 with a suggested retail price of 599 euros. At that time, Nokia was still known as one of the manufacturers that released the fastest updates for its phones. In fact, this research showed that Nokia has the most reliable phones.
