The new Honda Civic Type R can call itself King Nürburgring again. The hot-tempered Japanese hatchback is of course not the fastest production car on the more than twenty kilometers long German circuit, but it is again the fastest front-wheel drive on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

The Renault Mégane RS and the Honda Civic Type R have been fighting each other off and on for years. Then the French hot hatch again the fastest on the Ring, then the Civic Type-R takes that title back. This time it is the Honda Civic Type R that takes the title for fastest front-wheel drive production car from the Mégane. In 2019, the Mégane RS Trophy-R blasted in 7.45.389 minutes over the 20.832-kilometer layout of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and the Honda Civic Type-R now eats just under half a second of that lap time.

The Honda Civic Type R completed a lap on the Nordschleife in 7.44.881 minutes. Still, the record-breaking Civic is not the one you can now order from Honda dealers. At least, not yet. Honda indicates that it sent a lighter version of the Civic Type R on the successful record hunt. This variant officially listens to the name Honda Civic Type RS Grade. It is not yet available in Europe, but will soon be on the European price lists. The Civic Type R was on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect rubber, tires available from Michelin.

The Honda Civic Type R that you can order now has a 329 hp and 420 Nm strong 2.0 four-cylinder turbo engine, a machine that sends its power to the front wheels via a manual six-speed gearbox. The Civic Type R sprints from a standstill to a speed of 100 km / h in 5.4 seconds. Its top speed: 275 km/h.
