Honda Jazz scoop: front airbag

New safety feature for side impact

The new Honda Jazz will be equipped with newly developed safety systems. As standard, the compact car is equipped with an airbag in the front center, a first in the segment.

The new Honda Jazz generation, which will be in showrooms this summer, has been completely redesigned from the ground up. This made it possible to apply new and improved passive and active safety technology. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering bodywork technology, for example, is a type of frame that distributes the impact energy more evenly across the front of the vehicle in the event of an accident. This reduces the impact on the occupants.

The brand has paid extra attention to side impact protection. A first in the segment of compact cars is the airbag in the front center, say between the heads of the driver and co-driver. In a side impact, it unfolds at lightning speed between – or better, all around – the head restraints. The new gadget works together with the belt tensioners and the (higher) center armrest. Your head stays in place better on impact and does not touch that of the other front passenger.

Honda’s own research would show that you’re 85 percent better protected in the front from a side impact, or 98 percent if you’re on the other side in the front. Rear passengers are protected by the improved i-side system, with airbags deployed on the outside of the rear seat in the event of a crash against the door or C-pillar.

Active safety and driver assistance systems under the Honda Sensing umbrella are once again available for the new Jazz. Honda has made some improvements to that. For example, a new camera can recognize more situations, including the transition from road to grass or gravel. Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Information and an emergency braking system.
