Honda recalls 2021 NC750X over incorrectly programmed injection

Honda has rolled out a recall for the 2021 NC750X DCT. Due to incorrect programming of the petrol injection, the FI-ECU is not getting enough fuel when the throttle is quickly turned on at low revs.

Honda recalls 2021 NC750X over incorrectly programmed injection

It had happened to us a few times during the test of the NC750X earlier this year at the Veluwe, but we thought it was because the block was not up to temperature yet and we paid no further attention to it. It wasn’t the first time that a cold engine had cut out, although we were already of the opinion that something like this shouldn’t happen with a semi-automatic transmission.

However, the stalling now appears to have had a different cause. In February, the problem first appeared in a unit of its own fleet in Japan, which had stalled on its way off. However, the problem could not be reproduced.

Two months later, Honda received a first report from a customer in Japan, at the beginning of July that bike was bought back by Honda because of the multiple stalls. By that time, Honda had also received several reports from Europe and an investigation had been launched.

The investigation and analysis confirmed that the engine stall occurred when starting from a standstill, or just before the bicycle came to a stop. However, the block could be restarted immediately. An incorrectly programmed fuel injection turned out to be the culprit.

The Honda dealer will reprogram the FI-ECU and DTC-ECU and resolve the issue. Owners who have already had repairs carried out and paid for this will be reimbursed by Honda.
