If you look at your tablet or mobile phone, you probably see something like fingerprints or spots. Cover with a soft cloth and you’re done. But did you know that these devices are great sources of bacteria? Logical really: they are held in the hand or against the ear all day long. And some people even take their smartphone into the toilet. Viruses can also survive on the device, for example the coronavirus for three days. If you have a virus on your hands and you use the tablet or smartphone before washing your hands, the virus is on the device. Enough reasons to regularly clean your mobile device.
Cleaning without damage
To properly clean the tablet or smartphone without damaging it, proceed as follows:
- Turn off the device.
- Remove a cover if necessary.
- Blow out any dust that may be in the cracks. Use a soft brush if necessary.
- Take a soft, dust-free cloth, preferably a microfibre cloth, and make it damp (not wet!).
- You now have two options: BBC News has researched that a drop of hand soap on a damp cloth will get your mobile device squeaky clean without causing any damage. If you find this a bit exciting, then use a special disinfecting cleaning spray that is suitable for the screen of the mobile device. That’s on the packaging. Always spray on the cloth, not the device and then wipe the device.
Make sure that no moisture gets into openings and certainly do not use stubborn cleaning products with alcohol. This damages the protective layer of the touch screen. - If you have used soap, use a dry cloth to rub the appliance.
- Also clean the case with the cleaning cloth. There are special cleaners for leather.
