The idea is that an electric car is often expensive to buy new. You can of course also look at an electric occasion. Then you have the advantages of an electric car, but for a friendlier price. You may also receive a subsidy from the government. How do you get that subsidy for a used electric car? What should you pay attention to?
Which subsidy is involved?
The government wants to encourage electric driving and has therefore set up the Subsidy for Electric Passenger Cars for Private Individuals (SEPP). Every year up to and including 2024, you can apply for this as a private individual for new and used electric passenger cars, for both lease and purchase. In 2022 there is an (intended) budget of 20.4 million euros in subsidy for used electric cars. 2,000 euros can be applied for per car. This means that a subsidy is available for 1,020 used electric cars. Once that subsidy has been issued, the pot is empty and you can no longer apply for a subsidy until 1 January 2023. In short, if you want to take it with you, make sure to be there on time! If the subsidy pot is empty, every application will simply be rejected for the rest of the year. In 2021, the subsidy was completely spent on 28 August.

When can you apply for the subsidy?
The subsidy desk will be open from 3 January 2022 at 9.00 am. From then on you can Apply for the subsidy online via this link. The car may only be registered in your name from 1 January 2022 and the purchase or private lease agreement must also be signed on or after 1 January 2022. You must make the application within 60 days after the purchase or the start of the private lease contract. You will need the following information for the grant:
- Name, address, e-mail address and citizen service number

- Name and address of the car company

Conditions for the used electric car
The government also imposes conditions on the car in order to receive the subsidy. For example, the passenger car must be 100 percent electric with a range of at least 120 kilometers. The car must have been produced as an electric passenger car, so it must not have been converted into an electric car. The original new price of the used electric passenger car on the date of first admission was not lower than 12,000 euros and no higher than 45,000 euros.
