How to easily fix an AirPod that won’t charge

It sometimes happens that one of the two AirPods does not want to charge. Fortunately, the solution is often close at hand. The following tips should help you charge your AirPod in most cases.

Even if you experience charging problems with both AirPods, the tips below will usually help you on your way. Don’t be afraid, you don’t have to work with screwdrivers or other tools. Most problems are much easier to fix!

AirPod: this is how you fix charging problems

We start, of course, with an open door that is so obvious that you might just forget about it. The first step is to check whether the charging case is full. Open the case near your iPhone or iPad so that a pop-up appears. Here you can see exactly how much battery juice is left in the case. If it is (almost) empty, it is first time to charge it to at least 10 percent.

Sometimes it helps to take your AirPod in and out of the charging case. Do this with both ears if necessary and don’t forget to close the lid in between. This will solve any problems with recognizing your AirPod in the case, after which the charging process can start again.

No success? Then try these steps

If you have been using your AirPods for some time, you will probably notice that there is a lot of dirt in the charging case. It is not only important for hygienic reasons to clean every AirPod (and the case) regularly. Dust or dirt can also prevent your earbuds from charging properly.

In addition, it is possible that you are dealing with a software problem. If you are not using the latest firmware, this can cause problems. On your iPhone, go to the settings, open bluetooth and tap the i icon next to your AirPods to see which version they’re running. The latest version for the AirPods 2, 3 and Pro is 5B59, the one for the Pro 2 is 5B58.
