Turn your favorite videos into audio podcasts by extracting the audio track of the file in MP3 format from the video file.
Online services capable of extracting the audio track from a streaming video are numerous and allow you to listen to your favorite videos without having to keep your smartphone screen on. But what about the videos you store on your computer’s hard drive? The manipulation is quite possible and only requires one tool that you probably have already installed: VLC.

The multimedia player is indeed full of often unrecognized features, one of which allows you to re-encode videos… in MP3 format. In the end, you get a simple audio file that you just have to put on your smartphone, for example, to listen to it with headphones on your head in public transport or at the bottom of your cozy bed before going to sleep.

2. Start a conversion
To extract audio track from video in VLC, you need to convert it. To do this, click on the Media (or File) menu, then choose Convert / Save.
Then click on the Add button to select the video to store on your machine, or drag and drop it directly into the window and click Convert / Save.
3. Customize the profile
The conversion configuration window is displayed. In the Profile line, click on the drop-down menu, and select the Audio-MP3 output format.
Now click on the Browse button, select your backup directory, give a name to your file, and validate by clicking on Save. Start the conversion by clicking the Start button.
A blue bar indicating the progress of the conversion is displayed in the VLC timeline and disappears when the conversion is complete.
Now go to the backup directory selected above where you should find your audio file in MP3 format. You can listen to it in any compatible application on your computer, smartphone, etc.
