You may not have needed it before: the IMEI number of your smartphone. But in some cases it can be very useful to know how to find that number and what to do with it. In this article we will discuss how to find out that IMEI number.
The abbreviation IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. This is a fifteen-digit code that serves as a kind of digital identity card for your smartphone. Each device has its own unique code, which makes it difficult to mess around with it. Moreover, the fifteen-digit code can never be changed.
IMEI: what can you do with it?
Because it is a kind of ID card for your smartphone, you can do a number of useful things with it. For example, if your phone is stolen or lost, you can use this code to report your phone as stolen to the police. Your provider can then block the operation of the phone, so that someone else cannot just use it.
If you pass on the IMEI number to the police when your smartphone is stolen, they can put the device on a blacklist. If you are in the market for a second-hand phone, you can check for yourself whether the IMEI number is on the blacklist and may have been stolen. Of course you have to request that code. Is your device broken? Then you can pass on the code to the manufacturer, so that they can see if your device is still under warranty.
Find out IMEI
Now that we know what we can do with it, it’s time to check how we can conjure that code. You can find IMEI in a number of places on your smartphone.
The easiest option is to enter a character combination within the calling application on your smartphone. Note: although this trick works on the majority of all smartphones, it may be that your device falls just outside the boat. Open the phone app, then type in: *#06#. The IMEI code will now appear on the screen. Copy it and save it properly.
It is also possible that the IMEI code is written elsewhere on your smartphone. We mean your physical smartphone. In some devices you will find the code in the SIM card holder. Finally, you can, for example, simply type the word IMEI in the search function of your smartphone. To our androidsmartphones you will then see the number within a second. You can find such information under the status settings of your Android smartphone (but this may vary by manufacturer).
Finally, you can still fall back on the data on the side of the box of the smartphone. If you have already lost your device and you still have the box, then there is no need for the man. There are often stickers on the side with the unique number, so you can still indicate it.
