Creating a specific file makes the contents of a folder invisible in Android’s photo and video viewer.
If you are using Android apps that store photos on your smartphone, for example WhatsApp instant messaging, you will find that these photos are also present in the Android Gallery, which is often accessed from the home screen. Fortunately, it is possible to prevent the display of photo albums, those of WhatsApp or Twitter, for example, provided you have a file explorer.

You can either use the one provided by the smartphone manufacturer or download one from the Internet. Here are the steps to follow:
- Go to the folder that interests you, for example WhatsApp / Media / WhatsApp Images / for the WhatsApp app and activate if necessary display of hidden files. To do this, tap on the icon of the three small horizontal dots located at the top or bottom of the screen, then if necessary on Settings.

- You must then create a file .nomedia (the point is important for the name of the file) in the folder. To do this, generate a new file if the explorer allows it or copy an existing file, for example a photo, then change its name.

- You can also look in the directory Android / data because a .nomedia file may already be present. You just have to copy it to the destination folder.

Once the operation is completed, all the images in the folder in which the .nomedia file is present become invisible in the Android Gallery.
