How to magically transform your iPad into a Mac alternative

Apple’s iPad is becoming more and more powerful, so in many cases it is not necessary to buy a laptop or desktop at all. With a few accessories, the tablet can be transformed into a full-fledged Mac alternative.

While there are plenty of reasons to want both an iPad and a Mac or MacBook at home, for many people it’s not an absolute must. Moreover, it saves the necessary pennies that you prefer to keep in your pocket in these expensive times.

Turn iPad into Mac

How exactly do you get this done? Time for some tips!

#1 Stand or holder

One of the most useful accessories to properly use your iPad as a Mac is to buy a good stand. There are different holders, such as the magnetic stand from Elgato or the adjustable holder from Ugreen.

#2 External keyboard

What’s a Mac without a keyboard… While typing on the iPad’s touchscreen is fine, a real Mac experience requires a physical keyboard. Because iPadOS supports just about every Bluetooth keyboard, the choice is huge. Good examples are Apple’s own Magic Keyboard or the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini.

#3 Remote mouse

In addition to a keyboard, a mouse is of course also useful to use. It’s not an absolute requirement, but it will ensure you get the most out of the Mac experience on your iPad. Instead of Apple’s Magic Mouse, you can go for several other options, such as the Logitech MX Master 3S. There are also cheaper options, since almost any Bluetooth mouse is suitable.

#4 A stylus?

Where a mouse isn’t necessarily necessary, neither is a stylus. Still, it can be a useful tool if you want to use your iPad as a canvas to draw on. In addition to the Apple Pencil, you can think of the Logitech Crayon or the ZAGG Pro stylus.

#5 Power supply

You’d almost forget, but your iPad also needs power every now and then if you want to use it as a Mac. Although it does not have to be constantly connected to the charger, it is smart to always keep the charger and charging cable nearby, so that you can use it quickly when the battery juices are hard to find.
