It may be that you want or need to call someone or a company, but you do not want that person or company to have your number. On Android you can call anonymously whenever you want and in this article we explain how you do that exactly.
Anonymous calling can be done in several ways on Android. With some smartphones you can set this at the system level, but with others this is sometimes not possible. That’s why we’ll cover the most convenient and obvious option first. You then use the # button.
- Open the calling application on your Android
- Open the screen where you enter numbers
- Now type #31# and then enter the number you want to call
- If you call that number now, the person on the other end of the line won’t see your number
Anonymous calling on Android
Because it can be annoying that you have to do this multiple times with the same number, you can also set a specific number to always be called anonymously. You then have to save the number you call between your contacts, as you are used to. If you have (already) saved the number, we can start with the minor adjustment.
- Go to your contacts application and find the number you want to call anonymously
- Edit the contact (usually via the pen icon) and select the phone number
- Is it a Dutch number? Then add #31# again at the beginning (if it is a foreign number, you have to replace 31 with the country code in question)
- If you save the number now, your Android will always call this number anonymously
If the above two functions do not work on your smartphone, please contact the manufacturer’s customer service. At some android– telephones anonymous calling works just that little bit differently.
Control at the system level
With some Android devices you can arrange anonymous calling at the system level, such as on Samsung smartphones. Not every Android phone offers this at the system level. So if you don’t get any further with the steps below, you have to rely on the above method.
- First, open the phone application on your Android
- Press the three dots (top right) and select settings
- Find a feature called Additional Services
- Now select Show Caller ID
- In the next screen choose the option Hide number Nummer

Finally, we would like to emphasize that you cannot indiscriminately abuse an option such as anonymous calling. Although the recipient of the call will not see your number, the provider will see your number. So if you start harassing someone by calling them anonymously, your phone number can be requested from the provider.
