The latest Chrome update introduces a feature to rename the different open windows. This very practical system makes it possible to identify them more quickly, in particular by using the Alt + Tab shortcut.
After having to quickly update version 89 of Chrome after the discovery of two zero day flaws, Google was finally able to deploy update 90 to its Chrome browser a few days ago. And among the new features introduced in this new version, the ability to rename the different browser windows that you open should prove extremely practical on a daily basis.
Because rather than displaying the name of the active tab, this function allows you, for example, to organize your windows according to your tasks. You can thus open two separate windows grouping together on one all your work tabs, and on the other, all your personal tabs. These two windows are then easily identifiable when you switch from one application to another, using the keyboard shortcut Alt + Tab in particular.

1. Update Chrome
If you haven’t already, update your Chrome browser to version 90. To do this, click on the main menu, go to Help, and click on About Chrome. The browser should automatically check for and download the latest browser update before asking you to restart it.

2. Rename your window
To rename your first window in which your different tabs are open, click on the main Chrome menu represented by three small dots, then in More tools, click on Name window.
In the pop-up window, enter the name you want to give and validate by clicking OK.
Repeat the operation for each open window that you want to be able to easily identify.
3. Navigate between your windows
Now, when you navigate between your windows using the Alt + Tab shortcut or hovering over the Chrome icon from the taskbar on Windows, the different Chrome windows you have opened will be identifiable by the name you gave them. .
Likewise on macOS, where a right click on the Chrome icon in the dock will allow you to select the window to display on the screen.
To remove the name of a window, the operation is similar. Click on the main Chrome menu, go to the More tools menu and click on Name window. All you have to do is delete the name and click OK to delete it.
