How to restart HomePod with this handy trick

If you own a HomePod, you know that Apple’s smart speaker has no buttons. You can use touch controls to adjust the volume or activate Siri on top of the speaker. Restarting the HomePod is therefore not possible due to the lack of a power button.

So if you’re having issues and want to restart your HomePod, you’d think you’d have to unplug it, but that’s not the case. Unfortunately, you can’t ask Siri to restart the speaker, but you can use another trick.

Restart HomePod

  1. Open the Home App
  2. Navigate to the HomePod
  3. Place your finger on the ’tile’
  4. Select ‘Settings’ (gear)
  5. Scroll down and tap ‘Reset HomePod’
  6. Select ‘Restart HomePod’

On a Mac, you can do this by secondary-clicking (right-clicking) the HomePod tile in the Home app and selecting Settings. Scroll down and select Reset HomePod, then click Restart HomePod.

Apple’s smart speaker will now restart. After this, you can use the HomePod again and any problems may be solved. If you can’t restart the HomePod via the Home app, you’ll have to unplug it from the power outlet.

If the issues are still not resolved after restarting, you can restore the HomePod.
