Restrict the use of your iPhone or iPad by restricting access to a single application for a fixed period of time.
In all families, the iPhone and the iPad are the holy grail for children. If your offspring used to borrow your device to start a game of Super Mario Run, or even Clash Royale, perhaps you would like to be able to better supervise the use that is made of it.
An option exists natively in iOS, and allows you to limit access to certain functions of your iPhone. Guided Access – that’s its name – lets you block your device on a specific application, deactivate certain areas of the screen, set a time limit for use, or even prevent the volume from being changed.
1. Activate Guided Access
Open iOS Settings, then in General, go to the Accessibility menu. Scroll through the options to the one dedicated to Learning then enter the “Guided Access” submenu. Activate the switch to allow the use of the function.

2. Set up a code
To prevent your child from being able to exit Guided Access mode when using your iPhone, it is better to set a lock code.
Enter Code Settings and press Set Guided Access Code. Enter the secret code you will need to enter to exit Guided Access mode. Note that it is also possible to use Touch ID.

3. Activate Guided Access mode
Before finishing, activate the “Accessibility shortcut” function. This will allow you to easily view accessibility options once Guided Access mode is active.
Exit iOS Settings, open the app you want to block your device on, and triple-tap the iPhone’s Home button.

4. Choose your options
Before starting Guided Access, press Options. Several possibilities are available to you. You can deactivate the sleep button and the volume keys, or set a timer to limit the time you use the application.
Another possibility offered by this mode is to surround certain areas of the screen to prevent their access.

5. Use the application in Guided Access mode
Once all of your options have been selected, press Start. The application, apart from the prohibited areas previously circled, is fully functional. After the authorized usage time has elapsed, the screen will go dark and require your intervention.
Press the Home button on the device three times again and enter your code. The Guided Access activation window is displayed, allowing you to end it or resume the activity in progress.
