The fact that Facebook knows a lot more about you is once again apparent from the section ‘People you may know?’ Suddenly, former villagers, friends of friends and ex-lovers pass by. And because of this, you also know that you are presented in the same way to others. Do you want to turn off the friend suggestions feature? Which can!
On the website
Where does Facebook get those suggestions from? In most cases, they are mutual friends and friends of friends. But it is also possible that you are a member of the same Facebook group or that you are tagged in the same photo. Maybe you have a common network such as a school or employer? On Facebook’s desktop website, you can use the feature Friends suggestions disable in your account settings. After you are logged in, click on the menu icon at the top right. That’s the arrow pointing down. There, select the option from the drop-down menu Settings & privacy and from there you go to Settings. There you can click the option on the left Click Notifications.
Push, Email or SMS
First you need to decide if you want to get the notifications for people you may know at all. If you leave this option active, you can still indicate in which ways you want to receive these notifications: as push notifications, by e-mail or by text message. If you want to stop all friend suggestions, use the slider to stop allowing those notifications. This means that from now on you will have to find and add your friends yourself.
Mobile
on android– or iOS devices you can of course also disable this service. First, open the Facebook app and then tap the menu icon (the three horizontal lines). In this menu scroll down until you reach Settings & privacy comes and you can also get the Settings to open. Here you have to scroll down again until you get to the section notifications the Notification Settings can open. Tap the button people you might know. Just like on the Facebook website, you can disable friend suggestions via push, email and/or SMS by tapping the slider next to the option. If you want to disable all friend suggestions on Facebook, you can also do that here with a central button. The slider turns gray when the setting is turned off.
